this week's project

has been branch clean up.

It's an ongoing thing really, we do some here and there and before we mow etc., but this time we're doing it all.

See these piles?  These rows of willows are so brittle, they break very easily in the wind and shed A LOT!

We actually found 2 frogs that day...he liked them from a distance but didn't care to touch them..yet. I know that day is coming.

Jonas loves it on the tractor...he sits for hours sometimes while we're mowing.

And the thing is, he really, truly likes helping outside. He takes his work very seriously. Just like he takes everything else very seriously I guess.

  

These are good times. Us being together. The kind of times we'll look back on one day with fond memories. I know, I'm very sentimental..but it won't be long til Jonas will be in school and we won't be his world anymore, you know? I know that's life, but it just makes me treasure these times all the more.

Now, totally off topic, but can anyone recommend a good place close to Winkler to get strawberries? I'd like to get some next week and a couple of places I know of shut down. Thanks.

Hey, here I am...2 days in a row! It's been an at home kind of week..I've barely left the house! I did have to get groceries last night because we were out of milk. ;)

Today we have Hailey and Matthew (my niece and nephew) here. We roamed the yard a bit and did some exploring.

This little pool of water (I don't really know what to call it) is towards the back of the yard. We scared the ducks away as we walked up..I haven't been able to get a picture of them yet.

For those of you who haven't been here, we have the yard where our house is on (about 3 acres...pretty bare), then right beside we have what was the original farmstead which is a few acres as well. There's a few sheds on there and big trees around it. (that's where we'd like to build our house one day!) Then behind that there's a creek/low spot with tall grass where this pool is. Behind both yards there is farmable land which our neighbor rents. And altogether it's 40 acres. And I love it!! Ok, that was kind of off topic but that gives you a bit of an idea where my pictures get taken.

Back to today.... We picked some perty flowers. :)

And they humored me with a foot shot. You can totally tell their little personalities in this one!

Jonas finds it a little stressful having kids over because it means he doesn't have full reign of his toys. Well, depending what age the kids are. But anyway, it's good for him!! ;)

First off, a couple from at my brother's house on Sunday. The kids had four wheelers and dirt bikes out.

Jonas of course is wearing his "this is so fun but I'm going to try my hardest not to smile" face. We had 2 gatherings on Sunday...all in all a good but busy weekend.

Then came the rain which was much needed! Hopefully it will help keep the dust down for a few days. Then last night turned out to be beautiful so we got some yardwork done. First off collecting branches.

Jonas was right in there with us...copying John's every move.

No playing for him when there's work to be done! ;)

He ate dirt, found he didn't like it, but tried again anyway.

So we got the worst of the branches done..enough so we could mow the lawn for the first time.

My idea of a good evening! :)

at what I did last night.

I'm in the process of turning Jonas' room from a baby room to a boy/play room.  Our living room at this house is small..so we thought it might be nice to put some toys in his room instead. So out came the change table and rocker..and I added some shelving from Walmart and table and chairs we got from Ikea. I picked up 3 large frames from a garage sale today that I'm going to do something with. I'll share more once I'm done!

So, what's up for the weekend? It's looking busy here. John has a Winnipeg gig on Friday (which I'll stay home from because I'm supposed to be doing some engagement pictures...IF it doesn't rain). Saturday I'm going to the Winnipeg garage sales with my sisters. Sunday the plan is to go to Grunthal for lunch with John's family and back out here for supper with my family. So..it will probably fly by!

I think this evening we'll try and get some yard work done. Still losta branches that need picking up so we can mow. I don't know if I will ever experience that caught up feeling on this house and yard...but I'm trying very hard to be good with that. I think I'm doing ok. ;)

in the past few days we have

learned something new....

had friends over...

(which meant mommy got to talk camera talk and Jonas had a little partner in crime!)

moved our shed.... (there are 3 sheds on this yard but none of them were close to the house.)

...and just today, discovered the joy of stickers. (a nice quiet activity after a bit of a rough morning!)

Hope to spend lots of time out on the yard this weekend. Hope your weekend is good!

tractors and fun dip

This has been the highlight around here lately.

Our tractor arrived on Friday..the boys are super excited! In fact, Jonas couldn't finish his supper after I told him it was here. We all took it for a spin...(even me! ;) I'm supposed to learn to mow with this thing so we'll see how it goes. Then yesterday John did some work with it...made a teeny tiny dent in yard clean up. Eeek!! I'm just now starting to realize how much work this place is going to be. Still no regrets though...I'm excited for Jonas to grow up this way.

And today, enjoying his first fun dip.

(from Auntie Tina. Somehow those messy snacks just never make it into my shopping cart! ;)

So we're sitting outside  while he's eating his snack and I tell Jonas he has blue eyes and mine are green. Out of the blue he says, "I'm two."

So I ask, "how old is mommy?"

No hesitation.."free (three) like Ashton!"

LOL! Thanks, bud.

Ok, I'm off to wash windows!

house pictures

Here's a couple of house pictures. We didn't want to make any major changes in hopes of selling this one and building on the land eventually. But it still feels good to change a few things to make it ours. So we did some work on the main floor..painted, took down the blinds, and replaced the majority of the light fixtures. We had 2 of these matching chandeliers in the dining room and 2nd entry. We've now replaced the one in the dining room  and are looking for something to replace the other one, which is visible to the street. I'd like to find something smaller, but still something that goes with the other one.

And here's my new bamboo plant. John thought it was kind of funny...it's just a couple of sticks. LOL.I don't usually have live plants in the house so we'll see how this one will do. It makes me happy. :)
